A once in a Blues moon opportunity!

Another year, another band hunt inches closer to the finale. The Big Blues Band Hunt, held from Dec ’17 to Jan ’18 saw a lot of talented Blues bands sending in their entries, to win a chance to perform live at Asia’s largest celebration of the Blues – The Mahindra Blues Festival 2018.

Legendary music duo – Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, have been playing a major part in keeping the Blues alive, will return to judge the annual band hunt for the festival. As always, it was a tough decision for them, having to dive head first into all the entries received and shortlist three bands for the finale, a battle of the Blues that will go down on January 27th at the True School of Music in Mumbai.

With that said, here’s a quick look at the three finalists of this year’s band hunt:

The Mojo Hand:
Siddhant and Anudwatt hail from Kalimpong and Darjeeling, and literally grew up together listening, learning from and teaching each other. They played small shows where Siddhant soon earned himself the nickname of 'Hendrix'. They landed in Bangalore and found themselves playing along to the drums of Henster in an informal gig, which led to the forming of the band - The Mojo Hand. The three self trained musicians play the Blues with influences of styles like Chicago and Delta.

Submarine in Space:
Submarine in Space is a creative endeavor to bring out fresh music from seemingly incongruent sources. Inspired by genres ranging from old school jazz to Hindustani Classical, the front man Abhishek Mittal believes that describing his music would involve a series of epithets, simply identifying it as an expression of honesty. Transcribing deep seated emotions to the fretboard, he is flanked by musicians who stay true to this spirit.

Arinjoy Trio:
Arinjoy Trio is an initiative which brings together three people who share a common hunger for the blues. Led by guitarist Arinjoy Sarkar, it comprises of Sounak Roy on drums and Aakash Ganguly on Bass. The trio performs a wide variety of blues music, from old school to contemporary.

Three bands will perform their hearts out, one band will win a chance to perform live at the eighth edition of the Mahindra Blues Festival on Feb 10th & 11th 2018. Stay tuned to our social media pages to find out.
